Happy April Fools' Day
With March coming to a close and April arriving soon we might begin thinking of a prank to play on a friend or family member? As a young child I loved trying to fool my mom, dad, brother & friends, did you enjoy the tradition as well? Even as adults shenanigans are played at work & at home.
I have often wondered when this tradition began, researching April Fools' Day this is what I found.
The true origins of April Fools' Day are uncertain, but one theory is that it began in 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with spring equinox around April 1. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 & continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called "April fools."
